One of the best winter sports is either snowboarding or skiing. If you are fortunate enough to live in the Pacific Northwest then you will have the opportunity to ski at Stevens Pass Ski Resort. This is a beautiful ski resort is located on Highway 2 in the state of Washington. The roads to the ski resort are regularly maintained during the winter and therefore it has easy access on most winter days.
Each year enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders await opening day. Stevens Pass Mountain Resort has been busy each and every year making a variety of improvements to make that opening day event even more special. For example, the resort has spent almost $2 million on parking lot improvements during the summer months. There is a new parking lot that has the capability of holding over 250 cars. The design of this parking lot on the north side of Highway 2 will allow easy access to the ski resort by crossing a pedestrian bridge.
It is always advantageous to bring a car load of people whenever you decide to come to the resort. The reason for this is that the new parking lot, along with Lot A and Lot G, all offer free parking for any car or vehicle that has more than four people. If you are traveling with fewer than four people then be expected to pay $20. Obviously, this is to encourage guests to carpool and therefore helping to reduce road congestion and while at the same time supporting environmental initiatives.
Another new addition is the equipment that has been put into place to help the Resort open earlier in the season. This equipment will also help to maintain top quality conditions throughout each and every day of the season. The Resort has also added two new snow cats. One is a winch cat and both of these units will help to groom even more runs. The advantage to having a winch cat is that it has the ability to groom where a normal snow cat cannot. The reason why it can do this is because it can anchor a steel cable from the winch to a tree. This will be advantageous for adverse conditions or areas of steep terrain.
The Resort has also purchased a brand-new snow making fan gun. A fan gun is used early in the season to help build up ramps to lifts. It also will be beneficial to fill in any low snow areas that are close to the base. There has also been a lot of extensive trail work performed by the summer crew. They have been busy expanding and smoothing out trails while at the same time removing dangerous and unnecessary rocks. All of the excessive material was used in constructing the new parking lot which has the additional effect of providing improved drainage.
The mountain operations manager stated that all of these improvements will help to maintain excellent conditions during rainy periods, allow the resort to open earlier, and provide snow for lower levels. Also, the summertime clearing of rocks, grass, and brush will provide a better experience for all of the guests who visit the Stevens Pass Ski Resort.
